A MOMENT OF CARNAGE PASSED - South Africa by Sohail Coelho
A long wooden platform takes us from the top of the cliff down onto the sand. I am in awe of the expansiveness of this beach, the emptiness of the space, the power of the waves that crash in loud thundering beats. The setting sun colors us in goldenness. A large, translucent jellyfish has washed up on shore and is now the feast of a legion of snails. Slimy trails carved by the snails' path. Jellyfish tentacles oozing out from its underbelly. Hundreds of brown snails surrounding it, on top of it, under it – carnage at its simplest. A cool spring breeze lifts salt and spray from the ocean’s depths and awakens us - leaving behind the grittiness of the moment.
